Gina
Pulice¥s The Seventh Veil takes our first stab at exploring the
possibilities of a Black Box Production. Through the improvisational
medium of Movement to Music, an ensemble of six actors and two musicians
summons the story of Salome, the siren rumored to have brought John
the Baptist to ruin. From primal, heated drumbeats to eerily cool electronica,
the live chords of The Seventh Veil tease out a dialogue of sexuality,
spirituality, and power. Using texts from Oscar Wilde and Tom Robbins,
the cast takes a provocative peek beneath the veils under which we all
hide.
Gina and her cast
exemplify the kind of artists whose work Black Box Productions will
feature in the coming months. Gina, after receiving her BFA from the
Theatre School at DePaul University, acted in Shotgun¥s The Bacchae,
and assistant directed as well as stage managed our recent adaptation
of The Jungle Book. She has proven instrumental in the construction
of these plays, and now we share in her education as she builds one
of her own.
