Monique Jenkinson
"devilishly precise" – Dance Magazine
"campy, intellectual juxtaposition of pop culture and high art" – San Francisco Magazine
"revelatory and inspirational … a must-see because of her techni¬cal excellence, ability to create beauty, and rare personable flair for drama."
SFBG

Monique Jenkinson is a multifaceted performing artist whose work hurls itself into the gaps between dance, theater, drag and performance art. She has been called ‘hilarious’ with an ‘intellectual spark’ and ‘enough to make a girl want to revisit her Susan Sontag.’ She has created and performed locally and internationally at ODC Theater, CounterPULSE, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, the de Young Museum, and Trannyshack in San Francisco; Danspace Project, the New Museum, Howl Festival, Vandam and the Stonewall in New York; the Met Theatre in Los Angeles; the Coachella music festival; and in Reykjavik, Amsterdam and London.

Jenkinson engages in constant, critical examination of the intersections and differences between her nightclub-going and theater/dance-based audiences. She sees her relationship with them as a realm of ‘outness,’ from which she strives to invite, reveal and communicate: to acknowledge the shared experience between performer and observer.’

Crotch
Performance & installation by Keith Hennessy

"a compellingly disturbing standoff." - NYTimes

"Hennessy is that rare artist who succeeds in translating fierce social
concerns into artistically satisfying creations that enlighten and
entertain." - SFBG

Crotch (all the Joseph Beuys references in the world cannot heal
the pain, confusion, regret, cruelty, betrayal or trauma) (2008)

Crotch references the images and actions of artist Joseph Beuys. On the surface the work is about art, its histories and heroes. Deeper, a sadness grows, a queer divorce melancholy. A song, a dance, a lecture, talking to the dead. Chaos through Play becomes Form.

Performance & installation by Keith Hennessy
Music: Emmy Lou Harris, Craig Armstrong, Teddy Thompson, Down River, Nirvana
Crotch was developed at Ponderosa (Stolzenhagen Germany) in 2007 and was commissioned/presented at L'Arsenic (Lausanne Switz) in 2008.

Read the reviews of Crotch at DTW (New York), April 2009.

ACCESSIBLE

feedback central

We've finally figured out a way for folks to share comments about their experience with the rest of our community. You probably know this already but please consider the following before lettin' it fly:

* Don't be mean.
* Don't write words you wouldn't say in front of your grandma or my daughters.
* Don't go promoting outside causes.

Sound fair? Good. Now grab that keyboard and break it down.
