30th Anniversary Season!

The Season Selection Committee has been hard at work behind the scenes considering plays for our upcoming 30th Anniversary Season. We’re planning an exciting season for you, with five mainstage plays and three Champagne Staged Reading Series selections. And new for next season: In order to ensure greater access, we’re working to bring as many live streaming options as possible during our show runs. We’re putting the finishing touches on our plans, so check back in February 2021 for our official season announcement and subscription drive.

Bridge Programming

In order to “bridge the gap” between our current virtual season and our 30th Anniversary Season, we’ve planned an amuse-bouche of plays.

Every Time I Feel the Spirit

A Zoom Commission by Noelle Viñas

Coming March 2021

Rather than trying to make a play work with the Zoom platform, why not commission a play specifically designed for that platform? Playwright Noelle Viñas is up for the challenge! Every Time I Feel the Spirit follows Gabriela, a young, queer, newlywed pastor as she attempts to navigate her new evangelical congregation's shift to online worship due to COVID-19. As seasons change outside and the flat timeline of quarantine continues, the church fights to maintain a practice that rotates around fellowship and community across generations and cultures when they can't hug, cook, or sing together. Even the places and communities we have always called home can continue to surprise us in times of change!

Babes in Ho-lland

By Deneen Reynolds-Knott

Directed by Leigh Rondon-Davis

During a sunless Pittsburgh winter in 1996, Ciara and Taryn connect over a shared love for R&B girl groups but quickly discover something deeper. While attending a predominantly white college, these two black students create their own bubble of self discovery, music and sanctuary in Ciara’s Holland Hall dorm room. However, the stress of love, financial hardship, and the persistent lack of privacy threaten to destroy it. A finalist for the 2020 Bay Area Playwright’s Festival.

The Claim

By Tim Cowbury

Directed by Rebecca Novick

A bold, imaginative response to the stories of those seeking refuge in the UK, The Claim asks what happens when your life is at stake and all you have to save it are your words. The runaway hit of this year's Edinburgh Fringe Festival, The Claim is a comically absurd and quietly shattering journey to the heart of our tolerant and fair society.

The Cassandra Sessions: Recording This World

Conceived & Performed by Beth Wilmurt with Jake Rodriguez

Featuring the Songs of Malvina Reynolds

Unheard in her time, Cassandra records an album of songs entitled This World, a time capsule of truths for anyone in the future who will listen. But people today don’t really listen to each other.
